FROM: pkelly@lmumail.lmu.edu (Peter Kelly) SUBJECT: DCC "RAIDERS" DISC: THE OFFICIAL WORD DATE: Wed, 15 Nov 1995 00:28:45 GMT ORGANIZATION: SilverScore Hey folks, No need to wait any longer for the new expanded version of this disc. Throw away all info you've received on this release - the official word, direct from the man who works in the same room these things are currently being held: The disc is available now, MAIL ORDER ONLY, for $12.00 USD direct from DCC. This price does not reflect s/h, which roughly costs three bucks. Any reports of this disc being sold overseas are not confirmed by DCC. It is currently not publicly available. According to DCC, the street date is later this month. No date is officially available. I would suggest you order direct from DCC rather than your regular mail-order outlets simply because this is DCC's courteous effort to fulfill your savage desires. Once the official date has arrived, buy from whatever store you like, but expect to pay at least $16.98 USD. When ordering, let them know you are actually *pleased* they have gone through the efforts to get this thing out. DON'T yell at them for announcing a date and not delivering on it. That's absolutely immature. Simmer your heat. I don't mean to be so harsh - I'm sorry if I am, but I got the feeling from DCC that this whole effort has been more of a headache than anything. We must show them that we appreciate their efforts in a tremendous way (one way of doing this is to show your support and order direct from DCC during this limited reduced price offering). Don't write, don't fax. Call 1-800-301-MUSIC (1-800-301-6874) Enjoy. It's been well worth the wait. The packaging is exquisite. The music, classic. Peter Kelly SilverScore
From: ldkendal@unix.amherst.edu (Lukas Kendall) Subject: RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK - new CD Date: 13 May 1995 12:31:34 -0400 I saw a query about this so I'll post info. On July 11 DCC Compact Classics will release a 75 minute gold soundtrack CD to Raiders of the Lost Ark, the original recording by John Williams. DCC is an audiophile label and (I think) issues only gold discs, which means the CD is literally coated in 24 karat gold but sounds exactly the same as a regular aluminum disc. Raiders will therefore cost somewhere between $30-35; for you audiophiles out there, the recording has been remixed and remastered to audiophile standards and sounds terrific. The Raiders soundtrack was previously available as a 40-something minute CD from Japan on PolyGram, which itself costs around $35. Don't buy this! The new version has around a half hour of extra music, including the main title, all the idol/cave music, the medallion theme (at Marion's bar), the airplane fight, the submarine music, and much, much more. It is sequenced chronologically, and music originally edited out for the original album (as in the Desert Chase) has been restored. The disc is the same deal as the Star Wars 4CD box set in that it is produced by Nick Redman with liner notes by myself, Lukas Kendall. The booklet (24 pages) has, in addition to my track by track breakdown, new interview comments from John Williams, Steven Spielberg's text from the original album, lots of rare photographs, and the Amsel movie-reissue poster art on the cover. It is my understanding that the disc will be available in record stores everywhere when released on July 11. However, that's what I said about the Star Wars box, and we all know that was incredibly difficult to find. Some soundtrack specialty mail order dealers which will no doubt stock the CD are Footlight Records (212-533-1572), Intrada (415-776-1333), STAR (717-656-0121) and Screen Archives (202-328-1434). At the moment there are no plans for reissuing Temple of Doom or The Last Crusade, the latter because Warner Bros. Records still owns the contract on it, the former just because. (I think they can't find the mixed down tapes of Temple of Doom, for one thing.) There are also no plans for an Indiana Jones box set. Drag. DCC will also issue a 3000 copy limited edition double LP (you know, records) of the remastered Raiders soundtrack, to be available later this year. It will have one extra track than the CD (for space reasons), a few more minutes of music when Indy and Sallah retrieve the Ark from the Well of the Souls. Please don't complain to me about the sneaky marketing tricks of pricing a CD at $35 and making you buy a 2LP set, too, they aren't my ideas. Any questions, post or E-mail.
