I would've welcomed his return, but I also think it's probably for the best. It may provide the film a better chance to stand on its own- as opposed to feeling like a direct continuation of LC.

I always worried that there might be a tendency to bring too many characters back (Sallah; Marion; Henry Sr.), resulting in an overcrowded film (ie. Lethal Weapon 4).
