A few years ago, when Universal went through different ways to remake the 1932 Mummy, they went through many ideas that were crap, frankly, like Zombies and other stuff. They went through a couple directors when they hit Stephen Sommers (I think it is). Here is an excerpt of the article I saw in The Edmonton Sun.

'He said: "I always conceived The Mummy as a kind of Indiana Jones or Jason and the Argonauts with the mummy as the creature giving the hero a hard time"

The studio that had once balked at spending $15 million quickly sanctioned an $80 million special-effects picture. They loved the idea of Raiders of the Lost Tomb.'

One more reason for me to see it!!
