In one of the Indiana Jones documentaries, Ford has trouble keeping his hat on his head in one stunt and it gets frustrating, so he pretends to staple his hat to his head in order to get a laugh (you even hear the folks filming the documentary cracking up).

As to what method he actually uses, I have no idea - but I doubt is has anything to do with staples...
