Wested back length

I've seen that the correct back length is to the top of the back pockets. Can some put this into terms as far as how many inches below the waistline this would be (front and back). Pocket placement many vary from pant to pant. I want to order the correct length on my next one. Is the part of the jacket across the back and top of the shoulders and up to the neck the "yolk"? I want to use the bottom edge of this jacket piece to give Wested the length dimension for the back.
