Only joking and I think that your points are valid and interesting.

However, I don't necessarily think that older means sadder.

Never Say Never Again, glorified and made fun of Connery's advancing years but still allowed him to be a kick ass super cool spy.

One of the most memorable images from movies from my childhood was John Wayne as Rooster Cogburn riding with his reigns in his teeth and his pistol in one hand his winchester in the other.

I don't want Indy IV to go down the 2getting too old for this shit" path. I want Indy to have progressed though as he's gotten older.

I don't want a rehash of Raiders again though - I want something good and cool.

That's all I ask.
