Its was filmed at Petra, Jordan. The ruins of the ancient Nabotean city stretches for miles - the movie only showed one building, called the 'Treasury.' The Naboteans flourished from 500BC until 200AD, when the Romans under Trajan conquered that region of Judea (117AD). During my last trip there, I wore my Indy gear and rented a horse to ride into the canyon. The inside of the 'Treasury,' as that main building is called, is very small. Historians are not exactly sure what the building was used for.
