Emperor's Tomb on difficult

In the manual (Xbox) it says that if you select Hard as difficulty, then the helpful icons won't appear in the corner telling you what object to use. I have the game on Hard, but these icons still seem to appear. Is there something I'm misunderstanding? I don't need to be told to select the canteen each time I get to a water fountain. Love the game so far though!
