Howdy! Actually, I send my hats OUT of Tennessee to either Steve Delk (Fedora), Art Fawcett in California, or (ironically) Peters Bros hats of Ft. Worth, as I have yet to find anyone in Tennessee who even HAS a correct block for a fedora or like dress hat. They only have or know Western hats, and cater to the country music crowd, so the felts are a LOT heavier, and they use gallons of stiffner to make the crowns and brims rock hard. Unless someone has a correctly shaped wood block in the correct size and shape of your hat, the term 'blocking' is being misused by folks who try to steam and shape by hand, like you describe.
