Spielberg launched the Indiana Jones franchise with this larger-than-life homage to ‘30s adventure serials. Ford plays the archaeologist-adventurer who deals with countless bad guys and fearless Karen Allen while tracking the biblical Ark of the Covenant (which contained the Ten Commandments) in 1936 Egypt. The Nazis also seek the Ark to harness its remarkable power but get more than they bargained for.
