: : O.K., are there any good whip handlers out there? I have been using whips for about 8 years now and have mastered several of the old Vaudeville tricks. Some of these include taking a hankerchief out of my back pocket, cutting cigarettes off the top of my head/out of my mouth, cracking a whip around my assistants waist and extinguishing candles. One trick that I saw a man do out in Vegas about 6 years has still got me puzzled. His assistant held a target perpendicular to the backside of her head while facing him head on. He was then able to cut the target from behind her head using a "modified" circus crack (vertical). I have had very limited success in copying this trick, certainly not to the extent of having a live assistant hold it. If anyone knows how this trick is performed, or has any other tricks they would be willing to share, I would love to here from you!

: Hi Illi, There are a few of us whip handlers that visit the Indyfan forum, and many others on different areas of the net too.
: Regarding trick you mentioned, I have not seen it done personally, so I won't comment on it directly, however there are a couple throws that come to mind that could probably do it. One is a modification of the sidearm and circus crack. When the whip glides out in front of your, turn your wrist and forearm away from your body. This causes the whip to arc away off to the side, but as the whip rolls over on itself the fall curves back in front of you and cuts with a crack. Another would simply be an angled circus crack, kind of like what you would do with the "figure eight's crack". However this one would have to depend on the length of the whip and the distance of the targeted item.
: As for other tricks aside from the ones you already mentioned, some of my favorites are cutting playing cards. Knocking targets out and away from the holder, then cutting them on the downswing while its still in the air seems to go over big. And of course multiple cracking. Although I have to admit, after reading Michaelson's favorite trick, I like his better LOL.

Yep, it's ugly, but you get a LOT of respect, and personal space too. Regards. Michaelson
