Indy's influence in The Untouchables

Anyone noticed that both Sean Connery and John Rhys
Davies portrayed Malone the cop who could not be bought ?

Another question I have is WHEN Did Indy room with
Jack Shannon if the YIJC say his roomate was Elliot Ness,
later leader of The Untouchables....
