Leather Color

Could someone refresh me on the process to treat the leather bag
strap; so it does not color my shirts.

Also, I have had my Alden boots for a couple of weeks now.
Upon receiving them; the color really puzzled me. They seemed more
of a red than brown. Anyway; the dealer said they get darker with time. Could someone comment on this please!
