Let's not concern ourselves with the phyisics of these shows, huh? I mean, if we were to do so, most of the traps and scenarios in Raiders and ToD would never exist.
But if you want my opinion, using his last ounce of strength, our hero grabbed onto one of the roots hanging over the cliff. Henry and co. could not see him thanks to the overhang. He climbed up where the tank fell, while Henry and co. were looking from a better vantage point.
