Last Crusade 16 & 256 colors ...

Hellow
I have 2 versions of the Last Crusade adventure game. The first is only in 16 colors and has some small differences (beside the colors). Like there is no Sam & Max totem-pole in Indy's office.
I don't understand why LucasArts made the game in 2 different color versions, or is the 256 version an update?
Who can give me some information?
