Han got his scar in a knife fight with another smuggler. Instead of having it "removed" he kept it for a conversation peice. Since their are no Indy novels out right now you should read Ann C Crispin's Han Solo trilogy, It is SO great!!! (Im not kidding when I say they are better than the indy novels)
