: Hey,
: Now on a less heavy note! When Raiders was released George Lucas sited at least two republic serials as the inspiration for the movie. What were they? I seem to remember one called "Spy Smasher" being mentioned but I can't remember if I'm right or not! I was just wondering if anyone knows what these serials were about, were they any good, and did they influence Raiders? I recently saw an old (1933?) Karloff movie "The Mask of Fu Manchu" which had some similare elements to Raiders! What do you guys think influenced the creation of Indiana Jones?
: Seeya Hannibal
Well, I would certainly have to say that the old Zorro serials
were a major influence, hence the bullwhip. If you can obtain a
copy of The Making of Raiders, you will see a lot of the influences
that went into the production of Raiders. It shows a collage of old
adventure matinee films with the Raiders March music overlaying
them. It's really cool!!!
