can I ask a question

At the risk of being further shunned ,ostracized and downright hated, what is it about the strap that is so intriguing? Seriously. There are a ton of posts asking zillions of questions about it. Isn't a strap a strap? Without calling to question one's right to have a hobby, does it really make a big difference in one's costume what the strap looks like?
