: Actually I am trying to find a hat to replicate the look of Indy's in TOD. It's obvious to me that the same hat wasn't used in all three movies. The one that HJ sales is obviously the Raiders hat. Gary
: White told me that the second hat was acquired by HJ in Austria. I do know one thing, the current HJ hat isn't the hat I'm looking for right now. In the future I may purchase a HJ hat. It is cheaper than Gary's, and is the real thing. Plus Gary's hat comes with a 2 7\8 " brim that I cut down to the right size. And his ribbon is 1 3\4" wide not the proper 1 1\2". By the way, my Stetson Nostalgia and Stetson Temple both came with 1 3\4" ribbon. Perhaps the can be ordered with the proper size ribbon, but I wasn't given that option from my local retailer.

Actually Gary White is correct, but has the wrong company. Stetson's original Temple of Doom fedora from 1984 was acquired from Austria, and was used by the extras in the movie. I know because I personally own one that was given to me by a friend who recieved it from an acquaintance of his who ran the prop department at Paramount at the time. He was kind enough to pick one up for me when they were sort of "cleaning house" back in the late '80's. I have owned and worn out two of the off the shelf fur felt Stetson T of D's, and the craftsmanship and material does not hold a candle to this Austrian version. The felt is the finest I've seen or felt, and the color was much darker than the US produced version. The Stetson crest is imprinted on the sweatband, where the US versions were not. As to the Herbert Johnson, from absolutely every source I've ever read, HJ was responsible for every fedora that sat on Indy's head in all three movies, as well as YIJC. Gary also used to imply that he was responsible for one of the movie fedora's, but on direct questioning got pretty uptight and unfriendly. I do understand that his product, though very pricey, is supposed to be of premium quality, so if you're looking at his product I don't think you'd be unhappy. It's just a very expensive version of the real Herbert Johnson. Regards. Michaelson
