On map 3, The Route of The Exodus, there is a city titled Zoan/Tanis. Zoan is probably it's current name, Tanis the ancient one. Also, it's only 15 miles from the Egyptian fortress of Ra'amses. Nearby protection a major plus for a potential final resting place of the Ark.

I also recall Tanis and the sandstorm story being mentioned in the mini-series "Masada" back in the late 1970's.
