"Gods, Graves, and Scholars: The Story of Archaeology" by C.W. Ceram - it's THE book on archaeology, or at least it used to be (some of it's a little dated). It's basically a history of the discipline from the 18th century onwards, but there's lots of Indy-type archaeologists discussed and all of the major discoveries up to the 50's when it was written. Just fascinating reading, and puts the films a little into perspective as well. : )
