Chapter 10
Lauren was looking through the books in the library of Mexico City, remembering some of her Spanish. She rubbed her eyes and yawned as Michael came in and asked,
“Find anything?”
“No,” as she slammed the book shut, “This is ridiculous. I’ve read and written about Aztec civilization, but I never heard of that particular spear.”
He held out a hand and said, “Come on, you’ve been here since early this morning.”
“I can’t. I have to find it.”
“Maybe Dad had better luck,” looking at his sister, “Come on, you need a break.”
“Maybe for a little while,” agreeing as she left the library with Michael. They walked passed the vendors when Lauren caught her eye on the whip. Michael watched her and asked,
“You really want it, Laurie?”
Lauren smiled as Michael walked over to the vendor and bought her the whip. He handed it to her and said, “Just don’t tell Eric I bought it for you.”
Lauren hugged her brother and said, “Thanks,” as they headed back to the hotel.
“Senorita y Senor Jones,” the desk clerk said, waving a piece of paper, “A message.”
Michael took the note, slipped the man some pesos, and read it. He smiled and said,
“Dad and Eric are in the restaurant. They have some news.”
Lauren nodded as they went into the restaurant. Lauren saw her father and brother and a man, who’s back was faced to them. The man turned around, saw Lauren and smiled. Lauren gasped and realized who it was.
It was Anthony Brody, Marcus’s nephew, and second year archeology student at Barnett... and Lauren’s boyfriend.
