I found a cool site devoted to those old movie serials that inspired George Lucas when he was creating Indiana Jones and "Star Wars."
On the site I found several things that are definite influences for both trilogies.
There's the clip of "Zorro's Fighting Legion" that I posted earlier and mention of a "flying wing" in another serial plus talk of Nazi villains and jungle temples and elaborate booby traps.
There's also a serial called "The Phantom Empire" (doesn't that title sound vaguely familiar?) and a villain called "The Lightning" who looks a lot like Darth Vader.
