If you take a closer look or just try to comprehend why I placed two dashes (--) and a greater than sign(>) after the word "obviously"...

...it means that those 2 dashes and the sign form an ARROW. This arrow connects the word "obviously" with the word/s following right after it... which in our case happed to be Deirdre Campbell. Therefore meaning that: Obviously my favorite character is Deirdre Campbell(who I suppose you know of, if you have read the IJ novels).
