Bakshi's film was made in 1978. A lot of it sucked, but there were a couple of scenes that actually worked (though they were few and far between).

If you can find a copy of "The Tolkien Reader", which includes Tolkien's short book, "The Adventures of Tom Bombadil", check it out!
