: : I was watchin' tv a few days ago and I seen one of those regular Pontiac commercials with the cowboys who jump into the jeep and comment on how good it is and such, and this one was deinately Indy inspired! The cowboys instead jump from their horses into jeeps and one of the guy gets dragged with a lasso like Indy did on Raiders! And no, I'm not calling Indy a cowboy(I HATE WHEN PEOPLE DO THAT!) but these people definately took it from Indy! Has anyone seen this commercial? Whattay think? Well see ya's, Shorty.
: : "Well you're something!" -Indy, Raiders.

: Yes, this caught my eye too!
: He is sliding, but it appears that his torso is planted on a special
: dolly or something.

: No, In response to Dr. Jones post below--I believe that this was the first
: movie to feature this style maneuver under a truck. Although the concept
: was borrowed--the "gag" was original I believe.
: Check the two segment making of raiders video--the stuntmen thoroughly
: discuss this stunt.

John is correct, this was the first time it was done under a truck, but the stunt was "invented" by the old veteran stunt man Yakama Kanutt (sp?) who was a partner and second unit director to John Wayne and many other Hollywood greats. He was also the stunt director on films such as "Ben Hur" for the chariot race. His original stunt took him underneath a stage coach, though, and was originated in the 1930's. Regards. Michaelson
