: I was watching Raiders last night and was wondering something: How exactly did Indy know to shut their eyes? Was it from an edited scene?

Well...I hate to be a smart-ass but it's because he's the hero and closing their eyes is simply a plot device to ensure they don't die. I know how simple that sounds, but I don't think these movies were meant as high-art that is to be examined and picked apart the way we do here. There's a great deal of discussion about the "bloopers" and scenes that don't make sense, like the submarine scene. I think we need to suspend our disbelief for a bit. These sort of things can't happen in the "real" world, and that's why the movies are so cool.
Or I could've said that man was not meant to behold the glory of god's power/wrath and only the riteous would recognize the threat and thus be saved :) ...but I didn't say that!
Cheers,
