Short Round?

What happened to Short Round after "Temple"? I reckon three seconds after the movie ended,that elephant flicked him off and ate him. It happened so quick, nobody saw a thing. Indy was so worried, he could'nt find his little buddy anywhere. He cried the next day when he spotted him in a big pile of elephant crap.
