: That is the way Howard Carter, discoverer and excavator of Tutankhamun's tomb, started his career- as a painter and sketcher who eventually worked and learned "on the job" under other archeologists in Egypt, sketching their finds. Eventually he worked as a primary archeologist himself, sponsored by Lord Carnarvon for six years until he found the boy king's lost tomb. belloq
That is old archaeology - I have no problem with that. It's descriptive. Not analytical. Archaeology in America is different from the British.
