To 3D, or not to 3D....

Everyone knows that graphics do not make a game (consider the Final Fantasy series). And since 3D is all the rage nowadays, started mainly by that little English-based game called 'Tomb Raider', would anyone still buy a 2D side-scrolling Indy game nowadays?
