Upon seeing the top of the box again, it actually said, "Leningrad Physics Institute - G.E. Volodnikov". I'm sure that the 'G' stood for 'Genady' (the guy's first name), although I don't know what the 'E' stands for (perhaps his patronimic, since Russians don't generally have middle-names like Americans and Western Europeans do).
