help!!! seriously stuck with sofia in the bubble!!

If anyone cna tell me what to do....Ive re=played it a few times from the beginning. after the cutthrough scene where the guy disappears, I know i need to get upstairs above the ball of lightening. everytime i try i get fried. do i have to kill the guy first or what??
