Hi Graham,
Tom here... I used a little leather conditioner on my straps which softened them a little, then folded them over so fall pretty much straight down. You might try tucking them through the D-rings as well. I'd watch Raiders again to get some ideas...(yeah, like we need a reason to watch Raiders again)
