First off, "Forrest Gump," though a great film, was not anticipated. Hell, three months before the movie came out I went looking for the book at the library and I had to spell the title because the librarian had no idea what I was talking about.

As for "The Matrix." Let's see how many people are still talking about it 18 years from now like we still do with Indiana Jones.
As soon as the next film with mindblowing special effects comes along "The Matrix" will be forgotten. Remember when everyone gushed over "Terminator 2?"

And, if you're so disgusted with Indiana Jones, why don't you go someplace else.
