dvd question...

i know this road's been covered a thousand times around here, but i'm at a crossroads:

what's the likelihood/status of the movies on dvd?

i recently purchased a dvd player, and am trying to slowly get rid of the kabillions of videotapes i own. i have the mcdonalds videos (remember that promotion? very cool exclusive trailer for the young indy series at the beginning of each tape), and would like to avoid buying another set of the films if they're going to be available on dvd anytime soon.

i'm losing my resolve, though. as a widescreen freak, i'm desperate to see the film in its full glory, and like one of the posters below, i consider widescreen restoration to be the equivalent of "extra footage."

i know this is a silly question to ask at this board. like there'll be any of you say "don't get the videos. just wait." :-)
