Why was Indy wearing the necktie in LC?

I understand he wore it as a little bit of a costume in the castle as the Scottish Lord, but wasn't it too Marx Brother-ish? Also, on some scenes in the movies he doesn't have his satchel on usually in action scenes. I.E. in the truck scene. See ya, Shorty.
