FANTASTIC MEDIA DISTRESSING?

Indiana John said that Lucasfilm was very strict on the distressing. What exactly was meant by that? Did Lucas get a hold of a jacket from one of the movies' and distress it like that? Also in the picture the top portion of the jacket looks brown and the bottom looks like a darker color like the movie jacket. Does anyone know really what color it is. Thanks alot
