Actually, I think Spielberg was paying homage to Lucas and Star Wars

I think Spielberg was paying homage to Lucas and Star Wars because he and Lucas worked together on the Indy films. Just a thought. After all, they outlined scenes together, Lucas was almost always on the set, etc. Probably thought this would be an insider funny.
