Eyes

One thing that I was always curious about, from Last Crusade. Wouldn't it hurt your eyes to have them open while swimming in petroleum? I just always thought that would be, well, bad. And one other thing I've never understood - when Indy fell of the tank, how on Earth did his strap get caught on the tank's side gun? And how did he get it back off again?
