Question about Young Indiana Jones

I haven't seen all the Young Indy episodes yet, so I wouldn't be able to answer this for myself, but does anybody know what necklace Young Indy wears around his neck? I saw it bouncing around in Treasure of the Peacock's Eye, and I'm wondering if there's a backstory to it; how he got it, why he got it, what significance it has, and why he doesn't have it in his adult years. Inquiring minds want to know.
