I also enjoyed reading of the Crusades. Two things that may interest you:
1) Check out the olde English tales of the Grail (e.g., Parsifal's quest, etc. Penguin Books has a nice edition). Lotsa lore.

2) Same period as the Crusades, the Arab world was engaged in a lot of sea-going trade: African giraffes to China and Chinese porcelain to East Africa. Pretty neat stuff and certainly as interesting as those battles. Check out a medieval writer named Ibn Battuta and art historian/archaeologist named Peter Garlake for more info on this neat topic...
