The swastika was a good-luck symbol used my many different cultures, including the Hindus and Native Americans. I've seen pictures of it in both directions. I think Hitler adopted it because of the myth he was building about the Germans being Aryans, and the Aryans were an ancient tribe that migrated from northern India into Europe- so maybe there's the Hindu connection for you.
I do know, that interestingly enough, one of the US Army Divisions from New Mexico (the 45th I believe)and this is because of the Native American connection, had a yellow swastika on a red background as their shoulder patch. Because of WWII they changed this, in order not to be confused with you-know-who!
