The Indy/ Roy Chapman Andrews question is far more detailed. Roy was scared of snakes due to an event in his early adolescence when one crawled into his shirt. Sound familiar? I think it is almsot impossible for Roy not to have been an influence on the creation of Indy. The producers of NOVA and the author a December 1987 Smithsonian article all make parallels. NOVA even played the Indy theme music while showing a picture of Roy. Find a picture of Roy with his rumpled hat and pistol belt. It's uncanny.
