I saw the movie in theatres 11 times in 1989 - I can state beyond any shadow of a doubt that this scene WAS cut from the final print. This happens a lot; people see a picture in a book so much and it becomes part of their memory of the movie. Witness 'Star Wars.' It happens all the time. I think what's more interesting than the picture is the "cut out" playset I have from Pizza Hut from 1989, that features a cardboard cut-out Indy, hanging from the vine underneath the cliff. Hope this clears this up.
