Enough about the custom figures....
FACT: It's illegal to sell anything with the likeness or name of Indiana Jones without a license from Lucasfilm.
FACT: There's a large number of folks who regularly make Star Wars custom figures for others for a fee.
ASSUMPTION: No one has ever been prosecuted for doing this...
CONCLUSION: In general, Lucasfilm, etc. looks the other way because the volume isn't high enough for them to be concerned about.
That's the situation as I understand it. Don't fool yourself into thinking its completely legal, moral, etc. In your example, for starters, any written work is protected for the life of the author + 70 years. For the most part this is all harmless because its a small group of fans sharing their hobby. However, if Lucasfilm, Hasbro, whoever decides to exercise their legal rights, you're in trouble.
From now on let's keep the custom figure sales messages off of this Forum. It's becoming more commercial than I'd like. I don't want this Forum to be a constant source of free advertising for a budding business. I'd like to keep the "commercial" aspect of this forum more in line with a garage sale. The occasional For Sale message is fine. Also, you can set up a page with all the ads you want and plug it in the last line of all of your messages.
