I tend to avoid the jacket *and* hat at the same time. I feel a bit cliche when I have 'em both. I like the allusion to the Indy style, rather than to cop the whole look.

I wear a hat darn near every day to work, though. And sometimes when I go out on a Friday or Saturday night. A lot more people than you'd guess think the hat is really cool! It's a great conversation piece in a bar! Chicks dig the hat, I tell ya! :-)

The brown hats seem to go with nearly everything, and the black is just the ticket for a gray suit or black shirts/shoes type situations.

Funny point of info: Biltmore, the makers of the Indy Miller have a whole "Kid Rock" line of hats! He even mentions them by name ("we bust Biltmore beavers and Top Dog coats").
