Bag Cleaning Time

When I first received my Indy shoulder bag I was so excited and couldn't wait to try it on, travel with it, and so on. But it stunk all that be damned! Now the smell has gone down plenty over time, but it still lingers a bit. Plus on my Grand Canyon trip it got pretty dirty.

So can anybody tell me how to clean these things? I've heard stories of them being put through a washing machine and getting bleached or ruined one way or another. Help please. And thank you.
