In addition to a Wested, I also have a cowhide US Wings jacket and it is very high quality and very well made. The distressed finish is the best I've seen.
An useful comparison might be between a vintage Cobra and a repro. You might get a repro quicker, but it's just not the same thing.
For a lot of people it's good enough, though and that's fine. For those looking for the ethereal element, the Wested's better. It's the Real Thing; the US Wings is a repro, very good, not exact.
Of course my analogy fails a bit, as in our jacket case the Real Thing actually costs less than the repro, but maybe this helps clear things.
Also, as anyone who's worked on restoring a vehicle will tell you, it's as hard to nail down a finish date as it is for Microsoft to nail down a Windows shipping date! ;-)
