Look at the bridge scene pix from TOD. The pic of Indy with the sword on the bridge (with the ripped off sleeve, etc) shows his hat in the same greyish tone.
Pretty much attributable to light, I think.

Well, turns out, depending on the PC I use, the colors change. I'd chalk this whole thing up to the dependencies of the amount of light and the type of light on the resulting color tones in film.
Ask any photographer buddy and they'll give ya an earful on this!

BTW, I too think the hat *looks* grey on the floating plane scene, but I think it's just lighting...
