After practicing for about thirty minutes with a book of matches
in one hand and a bullwhip in the other, I figured out how to blow out
the flame from a candle! When it became dark, I went outside in my
backyard with the whip and some more matches. There is the base of a
steel pole which used to support a clothesline, cut flush with the
ground. I stuck a broomstick into it, and fastened a candle on top
with tape. Then I lit the candle, which gives off a nice glow at night, and there is also no wind at all. I have spent the past hour
outside snuffing candle flames. Sometimes it takes fifteen tries,
sometimes just one (those are the most thrilling). But at last I have
the marker figured out. I have a brick, which I set my foot on to
give me the perfect position. From there I can strike at the candle
and almost repeatedly put out the flame within three tries.
So, I am officially "bad" with the bullwhip.
